FRIDAY MAY 16: ️BURLESQUE EMPOWERMENT with Pro Performer and Producer Chella Bella️

Join the fabulous Chella Bella for a 90-minute burlesque workshop that blends history, movement, and empowerment!

A seasoned performer, aerialist, and cabaret producer, Chella is the mastermind behind The Night Circus Toronto and has graced stages across Ontario with acts like the mesmerizing Blue Dragon, a jungle cat tiki act called Free Animal, and the theatrical Holy Hexed!. With a passion for storytelling through movement, she brings her expertise to guide you through the art of the tease.

1) The session begins with an introductory lecture, exploring the rich origins of burlesque across different cultures—from its European vaudeville roots to influences from Middle Eastern, Latin, and Black American performance traditions that shaped modern burlesque.

2) After a dynamic warm-up, you’ll learn essential burlesque moves, followed by a session on developing your own unique showgirl walk, emphasizing confidence, poise, and personality.

3) Next, you’ll put your skills into practice with a group choreography session, where you’ll not only learn a fun routine but also have the chance to inject your own flair and individuality.

4) The workshop concludes with a cool down and a follow-up discussion, offering resources and next steps for those eager to continue their burlesque journey.

Whether you’re an experienced performer or a total beginner, this workshop is all about celebrating your unique expression and having a fabulous time!

Enjoy The Staircase Cafe for drinks and refreshments before you join us next door at the Elaine Mae Theatre, which is the small beige coloured building immediately south of the main theatre complex at 27 Dundurn Street North. The cafe opens at 7pm and will still be open after our event, so you and others can relax and chat or enjoy their regular Open Mic night.

Our events in The Elaine Mae theatre start at 7:30pm and wrap up at 9pm.

Parking is available both directly behind the large red brick Staircase main building and on its south side, the one that’s adjacent to our event space at 25 Dundurn St North. It’s the small beige building at the corner of Dundurn North and Hunt St. (the one with the colourful bird mural on its south wall). You can join HOT In The Hammer from that side parking lot. Look for three steps leading to a white door.
