THEATRE: Mama Always Wanted to be an Architect

Multi-disciplinary artist Kay Fraser employs personal narrative & storytelling to explore the question, “How do we rebuild?” after all the pieces (of life) seemingly fall apart in her debut solo spoken word show, Mama Always Wanted to be an Architect.
Told in two parts, Kay strikes a balance between individual musings & social commentary; poetry & music; to navigate the internal & external landscapes that ultimately (& perhaps tragically) make, shape & break us as individuals & as a collective.
So what do we do with what’s left behind? How do we rebuild? Can we? Join Kay as she delves deeper into these queries, & reveals a truth at the heart of it all in this intimate & provocative public workshop performance.
*The creation of Mama Always Wanted to be an Architect was made possible by a grant from the Ontario Arts Council.
The artist & Flora & Fauna Holistic are based in Hamilton, ON. We acknowledge that our work & livelihood is situated on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee & Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share & care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown & the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
As we work towards our individual & collective healing & liberation, may we better understand our privilege & responsibilities as visitors, residents & caretakers of this land.
